WRAP undertakes polypropylene recycling test |

United Kingdom | UK-based Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP) has initiated a study to test the process of recycling polypropylene for use in food grade packaging and evaluate its commercial viability. WRAP has commissioned Axion Consulting, in partnership with Greenstar WES, Fraunhofer IVV and Pira Consulting for carrying out the project. The project aims to use recycled PP in food grade packaging which has not been possible until now; however, the same plastic is regularly recycled into industry plastics application (such as buckets and pallets). EU | A recent report made by the European PVC industry today confirms that the PVC industry’s
sustainable development initiative is definitely on track to achieve its Voluntary Commitment 10-year targets.
The audited results show that 194,950 tonnes of PVC were recycled in 2008, a year-on-year 30% increase on the levels for post-consumer PVC recycling. The replacement of lead-based stabilisers surpassed 50%, two years ahead of its 2010 commitment. ... more

Maurizio Peruzzo Polowat to invest in Polish PET recycling |

Italian PET bottle recycling company Maurizio Peruzzo intends to set up a production plant in Swidnica, Poland. The investment will cost an estimated PLN 18.3m (Euro 4.1m) and will cover an area more than 2.6 ha in size. The plant will manufacture PET granulate flakes and should be operable by June 2010.
Its Polish subsidiary, named Maurizio Peruzzo Polowat, is already operating two PET bottle recycling facilities in Poland. Polowat already manufactures PET flake at a plant in Bielsko-Biala capable of processing 18,000 tpa of post consumer PET bottles. The company also runs a smaller 14,000 tpa bottle branch recycling unit launched in Leczyca last year.

Tenders are now being invited by the UK Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP) for plastics recycling facilities to be built in Scotland with funding from the Scottish Government under the £5 million grant scheme announced earlier this year.
The funding is coming from the Government's Mixed Plastics Capital Grant Programme and is available to cover up to 30 per cent of the total investment required to develop new plastics recycling facilities in Scotland.
