Singapore's Oculus Takes over Aretae recycling facility |
|

Singapor | Oculus, a former contact lenses manufacturer from Singapore, says it has entered into a reverse takeover agreement with waste recycling and carbon credit firm Aretae in a deal worth US$410 million (Euro 282 million).
As part of the deal, Oculus will issue 1.2 billion shares at US$0.34 (Euro 0.24)each to key Aretae shareholders, who would provide a guarantee of at least US$34 (Euro 0.24) million in total earnings for 2008 and 2009.
Aretae has waste recycling projects in China, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam, with 30 greenhouse gas reduction projects that are expected to generate 50 million tonnes of carbon credits, Oculus says. Firms and countries with targets to cut emissions under the Kyoto Protocol may buy credits from such projects to cut greenhouse gases in developing countries.

Germany | According to an annual survey by Berlin-based Transparency International, Haiti is perceived to be the most corrupt country in the world. Other corruption hot-spots include Iraq, Sudan, Bangladesh, Uzbekistan and Belarus.
At the other end of the scale, Finland, Iceland and New Zealand emerged as the world’s least corrupt countries, followed by Denmark, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Australia and the Netherlands. Going further down the list of 144 countries, the USA ranked 22nd, Turkey 60th, Brazil 70th, China 71st, India 74th, the Ukraine 104th and Russia 127th. In 45th place, Italy was the lowest-ranked EU country.
The ‘2006 Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index’ defines corruption as the abuse of public office for private gain and requires at least three corroborative sources.
Founded in 1993, Transparency International is a civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption and boasts 100 national chapters around the world. ... more
